NetBox Copilot is designed with security and privacy as core principles. This page explains how we collect, use, and protect your data.

Data Collection and Usage​

What Data Is Collected​

When you use NetBox Copilot, we collect conversation data (your questions, Copilot's responses, conversation history), NetBox context (current page URL, object type and ID you're viewing), NetBox API responses for your queries, usage analytics (credit consumption, feature usage, performance metrics), and account information (email, organization, preferences).

What Data Is NOT Collected​

We do not collect your NetBox login credentials, your complete database (only specific query results), passwords or secrets stored in NetBox, data from pages you're not querying, or continuous monitoring data.

How Data Is Used​

Your data is used to process queries and generate responses, maintain conversation context, execute NetBox API calls on your behalf, and improve service quality through aggregated analytics. Your data is not used for training AI models, sharing with third parties, or marketing.

Security Measures​

All communications are encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest. Copilot uses secure token-based authentication with automatic expiration after 10 hours of inactivity. It respects your NetBox RBAC permissions—you only see and modify what your NetBox account allows. Each user's data is isolated by organization, and Copilot never sees or stores your NetBox credentials.

Data Governance Options​

For organizations with specific data governance requirements, Premium tier options are available.

Bring Your Own Model (BYOM)​

Use your own Anthropic API key or AWS Bedrock access for complete control over your LLM relationship, full visibility into API usage, and compliance with your existing AI policies.

Data Sovereignty​

By default, data is processed in United States data centers. Premium customers can choose EU, US, or other regions to meet regulatory requirements for data locality.

Data Retention Control​

Configure retention policies to meet compliance needs—set custom retention periods, disable conversation history retention, or apply screening and filtering.

Private Copilot​

Deploy the entire Copilot platform within your NetBox Enterprise environment. Data never leaves your infrastructure. Ideal for air-gapped or highly regulated environments. Available as an add-on for Premium NetBox Enterprise customers.
